Mad Dog 10K – Southport – 8 February 2026
A great day out for BTC members at the Mad Dog 10K in Southport, with brilliant running, big support, and an all-round top atmosphere. Closed roads, a flat and fast course, and a very respectable goodie bag made for a cracking event.
There were several PBs on the day, including strong performances from Rachael, Nona, Amanda Williams, Sophie Owen, and Nina Carter (and possibly a few more flying under the radar!).
A special shout-out goes to Stacie Lithgow-King, who absolutely smashed it—taking an incredible 12 minutes off last year’s time. A perfect example of how consistent training really pays off. We’re hugely proud 💪
BTC support was out in force too. Jack and Lauren turned spectating into an excuse for a long training ride, while Richard King claimed the unofficial (but highly competitive) Best Coat Minder Award.
The Carter family and Nathan came along to cheer, Stephen Lloyd captured the day with some great photos (assisted by chief cheerleader Toby), and Dominic Bond handled dog-sitting duties during the race.
Runners, supporters, photographers, and coat minders—what a team effort. Another brilliant BTC day out 👏🏃♀️🏃♂️💙

BMSS 4th Masters Swim Gala – BTC Shine with Strong Performances
BTC athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the BMSS 4th Masters Swim Gala, with a brilliant showing across all age groups.
Every BTC swimmer finished in the top three of their age group, an impressive team-wide achievement. Standout performances came from Marcin Kulisz, Amanda Williams, and Sheila Carter, who all won their respective age groups.
Points were awarded based on each swimmer’s best finish in each stroke of the 100 IM, and consistent results across the squad saw BTC secure third place overall in a highly competitive gala.
There were also notable improvements from Nina and Liz, both of whom bettered their times compared to last year—great evidence of the hard work being put in at training.
A fantastic team effort and a great day of racing for BTC. Well done to everyone who took part! 🏊♂️🏊♀️💙

TE NW Zwift Racing League
Chester v Bolton – Race Results
Tuesday 20th January saw our first head-to-head fixture in the league, with a great turnout from the club. Bolton women made up the majority of the field, and with women and V50s earning bonus participation points, this put us in a strong position from the outset.
Despite Chester claiming the top three finishing places, Bolton matched them on points overall. Paul Lupton delivered another typically strong ride, finishing as the first Bolton rider across the line in 4th place, closely followed by Mark Jones in 5th. Junior rider Daniel Taylor put in an outstanding performance to finish 8th, while Claire Burns and Ella Carter completed the Bolton A Team with solid, consistent rides.
The B Team also performed superbly, working together as usual to deliver performances they can be proud of. Their contribution ensured the points were tied on the night and once again highlighted that participation is key in these events.

Huge congratulations to Archie and Niamh! 🎉
Both competed in the Bolton Schools Biathlon Championships over the Christmas break, with Archie signing up to give himself something to aim for between triathlon seasons. Although he was meant to be representing his school, Archie was (quite rightly!) proud to race in his Bolton Tri kit.
An amazing result for both athletes — Niamh and Archie qualified for the Final! 👏 Brilliant effort and a fantastic way to fly the Bolton Tri flag.

24-11-2025 – In memory of Jackie Spiby
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and former Bolton Tri Club member, Jackie Spiby. Jackie passed away peacefully in the night after bravely living with cancer for some time, showing incredible dignity and courage throughout her journey.
Jackie was always someone who embraced a challenge. Although in recent years she had to step back from some of the activities she loved, she never lost her spirit. She continued to enjoy walks, always making time for those all-important café stops, and found joy in the simple moments.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Jackie’s positive attitude, determination, and sense of humour remained with her until the very end. She touched the lives of so many, and we will always remember her strength and the warmth she brought to our community.
Our thoughts are with Jackie’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. She will be deeply missed.

Bolton Tri Club Achievements: Rising Stars and Epic Feats
At Bolton Tri Club, we may be based in Bolton, but our athletes are making a splash far and wide across the sporting world! A huge congratulations to some of our younger standout members who’ve been absolutely crushing it this season.
First up, Emily Hyder has been on fire, taking on the epic Alpe D’Huez Duathlon and coming away with the gold medal 🥇! The notorious elevation of Alpe D’Huez is not for the faint-hearted, but Emily handled it like a pro. To add to that, she also ran the 1500m at the English Schools Championships, competing in scorching 33°C heat 🥵. Although Emily is a member of ManTri she has been sharing her wealth of experience by coaching our older juniors, alongside her dad at Bolton.
Lucas and Ruby Pilling have been going downhill fast 😬! On their bikes, that is. Ruby has had an incredible first season, and we’re all excited to see what 2026 holds for her. Lucas, on the other hand, has been dominating the scene, becoming the British Cycling Downhill Overall Series Winner 🥇 for 2025. We’re so proud of both of you!
360 Cycling has clearly recognised the depth of talent here at Bolton Tri Club — and they’ve been pinching our athletes! 😄
- Jess Taylor was named by 360 as one to watch
- Harry Patterson had an EPIC 2025 season and has now earned sponsorship with 360 Cycling, a fantastic reward for his dedication and hard work.
- Nate Obertelli continues to show his class and determination at every race, proving exactly why 360 has its eye on our riders.
Bolton Tri really is the place to find future stars on two wheels! 🚴♀️💪🏼
In addition to all this, we’d like to celebrate some of our junior swimmers making waves in Swim England Water Polo. A massive well done to Jess and Andrèa for their fantastic achievements – keep up the great work 👏🏼👏🏼.
It’s been an incredible season for Bolton Tri Club, and we couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, dedication, and success of all our athletes. The future is looking bright, and we can’t wait to see what next season has in store!
Keep up the awesome work, everyone! 💪🏼

Great effort from all involved, and a big well done to those who stepped out of their comfort zones to try something new. The mud, the grit, the cheering crowds – classic CX and a great team showing from BTC!

Roll on the next race at Heaton Park on Octoner 25th

Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to the organisers, marshals, and parents for making it all possible.

🌟 Rising Star: Jessica Taylor Shines in British Triathlon NW 🌊🚴♀️🏃♀️
In June BTC member Jessica featured as British Triathlon’s NW rising star.
We are incredibly proud to celebrate one of our very own – Jessica Taylor – who is making waves on the British Triathlon North West scene as a rising star in the sport.
Jessica’s journey began right here at Bolton Triathlon Club, where she trained as a junior and quickly stood out for her determination, athleticism, and love for triathlon. From her early days on the pool deck and running track to today’s podium finishes, Jessica has shown unwavering commitment and a passion that continues to inspire athletes across the region.
Now competing at a high level across the British Triathlon Super Series for Youth and Junior Triathletes, Jessica has become a name to watch. Her recent performances have earned her well-deserved recognition, and she continues to represent Bolton with pride, energy, and sportsmanship. Another rising star from BTC is Emily Hyder who also competes in the Super Series and trains with Jessica as part of the NW Academy for young talented triathletes. Emily recently took a fantastic second place in the 2025 Deva Divas Sprint Triathlon
Bolton Triathlon Club has always believed in nurturing young talent, and the progress of Jessica and Emily is a shining example of where dedication, support, and community spirit can lead. We’re thrilled to see their successes and can’t wait to watch their futures unfold as they climb the triathlon ranks.
Well done, Jessica and Emily – your Bolton Triathlon Club family is behind you all the way!

12th July – 🔥 Ripon Triathlon – Juniors Take the Spotlight! 🔥
Another brilliant weekend of racing – this time at the Ripon Triathlon, where our juniors absolutely stole the show! With grit, speed, and smiles all round, they put in some seriously impressive performances 💨
From start to finish, our young triathletes showed off everything we love about the sport – determination, teamwork, and sheer joy. Whether it was a first-timer crossing the finish line or a seasoned junior smashing a PB, every performance made us proud.
To top it all off, some of our juniors even got the chance to meet triathlon legends Alistair and Jonny Brownlee! An unforgettable moment that added even more inspiration to an already incredible day. Safe to say, a few dreams were made right there. ⭐️
It’s safe to say the future of the club is looking very bright. The effort and attitude on display were top-tier 😉
A massive well done to all who raced, and as always, a big thank you to the parents, volunteers, and organisers for their tireless support.
Keep training, keep smiling, and we’ll see you at the next one!

💪 BTC Women Shine at Deva Divas Triathlon 2025 🌊🚴♀️🏃♀️
It was a fantastic day of racing in Chester yesterday as the BTC Women made a powerful impression at the ever-popular Deva Divas Triathlon — a welcoming, women-only event that attracted 177 athletes this year.
From the first splash in the River Dee, the action was on! Olivia Limbert led out of the water, but hot on her heels just 23 seconds later were our own Ella Carter and Emily Hyder, kicking off what would become a thrilling race to the finish.
By the end of the bike leg, Ella Rowan Carter had stormed ahead with a 3-minute lead. But in a dramatic final run lap, Olivia reclaimed the lead, with Emily pushing hard to overtake into second place, and Ella securing third — a double podium for BTC!
👏 Final podium:
🥇 1st – Olivia Limbert
🥈 2nd – Emily Hyder (BTC)
🥉 3rd – Ella Carter (BTC)
🏅 Claire Burns finished a superb 7th overall and was 1st in her age category.
🏅 Nina Carter placed 30th overall, achieving 4th in her age group.
🏅 Liz Dawson took 2nd in her age group in the Quadrathlon (a brilliant mix of swim, bike, run & kayak!).
🏅 Cheryl West crossed the line in 146th place, showing incredible progress by improving on her times from last year in all three disciplines — an amazing personal achievement!
This event is truly for everyone — from seasoned racers to those just starting out. The friendly, supportive atmosphere makes it a great race for triathletes of all abilities.
So, BTC women… how about giving it a go next year? 💙💛
You never know — you might just love it.
